EHMC Staff in Haiti - Englewood Hospital Physicians and Nurses Aid in Haiti Relief

Spotlight On: Cathi Goldfischer, RN, and Arlene Keys, RN

Two registered nurses who work at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center are among the extraordinary healthcare professionals who have been part of the healthcare team in Haiti.

Cathi Goldfischer, RN, and Arlene Keys, RN, arrived in Haiti on January 15 with the NJ-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT). The DMAT is a group of dedicated professional medical personnel who provide rapid-response medical care or casualty decontamination during a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other incident. DMATs are part of the National Disaster Medical System and operate under the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The team is expected home in New Jersey by January 29.

Goldfischer and Keys work at Englewood Hospital’s busy emergency care center, a regional hub of emergency services. They have been joined in their efforts in Haiti by others from the hospital’s extended family, including Jennifer Ashton, MD, who worked as a physician and medical journalist

“We’re exceptionally proud of the exceptional individuals from Englewood Hospital who have gone to Haiti to help at a time when only extraordinary effort, commitment and abilities can possibly measure up in the response to an enormous humanitarian and medical challenge,” said Douglas A. Duchak, president and CEO, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.
