The 11th Annual Tenafly 5k Run and ROLO Dog Walk Welcomes Thousands of Runners and Hundrends of Dogs

ROLO the Englewood Hospital Therapy Dog Leads Warm Up Exercises for Four-Legged Runners PLUS Local Restaurants Serve Up Healthy Finger Foods at Event’s First “Restaurant Row”

The Tenafly 5k Run and Dog Walk now in its 11th year, takes place on Sunday, June 7th at the Tenafly Middle School on Sunset Lane in Tenafly from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon. With an ever-increasing crowd each year, 5k organizers are expecting the largest turnout ever, and have added several new features to the events of the day to appeal to runners and non-runners alike. Prices for this year’s events have all been frozen from last year so that families can continue to participate as they have in the past. See "Schedule of Events" below.

The 5k course will follow a well-designated path through the tree-lined streets of Tenafly. Volunteers line the route to dole out cups of water and cheer on the crowds.  For the first time this year, there will be a “Half Marathon Relay” with teams of 4 runners from participating health clubs running a total of 20 kilometers – or a half marathon.

The first race of the day is the 5k Run & Stroller Trot, which begins at 9:00am, followed at 9:10am by the 5k ROLO Dog Walk. The Dog Parade begins at 10:00am, the Fun Run at 10:30, the Doggie Fun Run at 10:35, followed by the Awards Ceremony at 11:00am. This year’s Awards Ceremony will continue the tradition of recognizing runners who have participated in the event for 10 years. Participants are encouraged to email info@tenafly5k.com to register for this free award.  As part of the Awards Ceremony, members of the Tenafly Educational Foundation (TEF) will announce the winner of the First Annual TEF Community Service Award Scholarship.

As Platinum sponsor of the Tenafly 5k, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center will be on hand with Rolo, EMHC’s beloved therapy dog. Rolo and his trainer will lead the 5k Rolo Dog Walk at 9:10am, and will lead the warm up exercises for dogs.  They will also be on hand to answer questions about training and the important role that Rolo plays at Englewood Hospital in the life and healing process of its patients.

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, one of the Gold sponsors at this year’s event, will lead the warm up exercises for two-legged participants.  For a complete list of sponsors, please visit: www.tenafly5k.com

Volunteers from the Bergen County Animal Shelter (BCAS) in Teterboro, NJ, will also be on hand with several shelter dogs, and will answer questions about the adoption process at BCAS.

“What makes this event so great is the town-wide enthusiasm we see from residents of all ages and from runners who come from all over the tri-state area to take part in this,” says Judy Aronson, one of the event founders. “It’s a great way to start getting into shape for summer, and a wonderful way to spend some quality time with your pet.”

All profits from the Tenafly 5k Run benefit the Tenafly Educational Foundation (TEF), the 25-year-old 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization that provides funding to support teacher-generated educational grants for Tenafly’s public schools.

In addition to the athletic and pet-friendly activities that make up the day, the 5k event also features a Family Health and Fitness Fair (8:00 am – 11:30 am) with scores of vendors in the Tenafly Middle School Gym. This year, Restaurant Row joins the Fair with several area restaurants and caterers cooking up delicious and nutritious culinary delights.

To register for any of the activities or to become a sponsor, go to www.tenafly5k.com or call 201-567-8313.
