Gary Wilhelm, a 12-year IT professional at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, has been selected as an honoree for Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders 2009 Awards Program. The award program recognizes IT professionals who exhibit a commitment to performance excellence and champion the strategic use of best practices to advance their organization through technology.
“Gary’s interest and vision in leveraging technology for positive changes and efficiencies is a true benefit to the Medical Center,” said Diane Caesar, Chief Information Officer at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. “As an IT professional, he is committed to identifying and solving obstacles to better serve the patients and professionals that count on our department.”
Wilhelm will join other 2009 honorees at Computerworld’s upcoming Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference held March 1-3, 2009, at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes in Orlando, Florida, to discuss IT strategies that make a difference in the workplace.
Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders Awards Program honors executives who show exemplary technology leadership in resolving pressing business problems. This year’s recipients were selected from over 1,000 nominees, who were measured against Computerworld’s IT Leadership Index, a set of characteristics that describes executives who guide the effective use of IT in their organizations, and evaluated by the editors and by a panel of outside judges.
Prostate cancer strikes one man in six and is responsible for more deaths among men than any other cancer except lung cancer. But there is good news. According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer has a near-100% cure rate when caught early. Because early detection is so critical, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center will offer its annual free prostate screening to men age 40 or older on Wednesday, September 9, Noon – 8:00 pm.
For the second consecutive year, the screening will be held on-board a state-of-the-art RV, operated by the Drive Against Prostate Cancer, LLC, in partnership with the National Prostate Cancer Coalition (NPCC). The RV will be stationed in front of the hospital at 350 Engle Street, Englewood, NJ.
The screening includes a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and an optional physical exam. (Appointments or insurance are not required and a token for free parking in the Englewood Hospital visitors’ parking lot will be provided.)
“The prostate cancer screening helps focus attention on the critical role early detection plays in treating and hopefully curing this all-too-common disease,” said Raymond B. Andronaco, MD, Chief of the Urology Department at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. “It is one of the many important services the Medical Center provides to the community.”
Drive Against Prostate Cancer, LLC, is the only national mobile screening program for prostate cancer, with more than 60,000 men screened onboard its vehicles over the last eight years. About 13% of those screened have had high PSA results, triggering the need for follow-up tests and potentially saving lives.
The Drive Against Prostate Cancer 39-ft. mobile screening unit provides a friendly environment for the free and confidential screenings. Men waiting for screenings can enjoy the RV’s flat-screen television with satellite programming, Internet access and healthy snacks.
