Englewood Hospital Recognized for High-Quality Care in Bariatric Surgery Comprehensive Program Earns “Center of Excellence” Designation
Englewood Hospital and Medical Center has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence® by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). The prestigious designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable patient outcomes in bariatric surgery.
Citing clinical evidence that the most experienced and best-run bariatric surgery programs have by far the lowest rates of complications, the ASMBS created its Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence program to recognize high-performing bariatric surgery centers, such as that found at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.
“The bariatric program at Englewood Hospital uses a rigid and systematic approach to ensure we provide the highest quality care to our patients,” said Ibrahim Ibrahim, MD, Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Englewood Hospital. “We’re honored to receive this designation, which underscores our ongoing commitment to helping our patients overcome the health risks caused by morbid obesity and live longer, happier lives.”
“The excellence of our bariatric program is in keeping with the wide range of world-class clinical programs we offer at our Medical Center,” said Douglas A. Duchak, Englewood Hospital President and CEO. “We congratulate all involved in this program on this important Center of Excellence designation.”
Obesity has become a significant national health issue. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that 66% of all adults in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Morbid obesity is closely correlated with a number of serious health conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Bariatric surgery, when performed correctly, can help obese patients manage these conditions. Surgeons with ASMBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence designation, including those at Englewood Hospital, provide top-quality care, ensuring efficacy of the procedure with each patient to the best of their abilities.
Englewood Hospital earned the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence designation by undergoing a series of site inspections by Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), which formulates and establishes for ASMBS the rigorous standards with which Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence must comply. During the inspections, SRC closely examined all aspects of the program’s surgical processes and collected data on health outcomes. As a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, Englewood Hospital agrees to continue to share information with ASBSM on clinical pathways, protocols and outcomes.
