2010 Press Releases

Resolution: A Healthy New You

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is ready to help you shape 2010 into the year that you resolve to take better care of your health.

1. I resolve to…schedule an annual check-up and follow up on any necessary screenings.
A yearly physical is a great place to start ensuring your best health. In addition to having tests performed by your physician, come prepared with questions about your health. Depending on your age and other health factors, make 2010 your year to schedule a mammogram, cholesterol test, prostate cancer screening, or colonoscopy. To remember annual appointments, you may want to schedule them near your birthday. There’s no better gift to yourself than good health.

2. I resolve to…make healthy food choices.
In the age of salads that contain more calories than a cheeseburger, chances are when you think you are making healthy choices, you may just be expanding your waistline. If you need extra help in determining the right foods for you, ask your doctor for a referral to an Englewood Hospital and Medical Center registered dietitian. For more information about these services, call (201) 894-3673.

3. I resolve to…quit smoking.
Compared with other lifestyle changes, quitting smoking can make one of the most significant improvements to your health. If you are ready to quit in 2010, Englewood Hospital offers a Quit Smart® smoking cessation program that provides education and support. Call (201) 894-3157 for program information and schedule.

4. I resolve to…get enough sleep.
If you often wake up feeling unrefreshed, chances are you are not sleeping enough. Try adding 30 minutes of sleep a night until you find the proper sleep formula that works for you—and stick with it. If your sleep problems extend beyond sleep deprivation, our Center for Sleep Medicine can help. Call (201) 894-3154 for more information.

5. I resolve to…take time to relax.
It is important for you to care for your body—but don’t forget your mind. Our Center for Integrative Healing offers acupuncture, therapeutic massage, stress management workshops, and movement therapies such as tai chi and yoga. To learn more, call (201) 894-3767.
