Comprehensive Care for Your Back Pain
Englewood Hospital’s Spine Center offers patients innovative treatment options

Englewood, NJ April 14, 2010 – A painful back can drastically impact quality of life. However, new options in spine care are helping scores of men and women achieve a fuller, more active lifestyle. A wide range of medical support services are available at The Spine Center at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (www.englewoodhospital.com) including surgical and nonsurgical care options as well as educational support for patients and their families.

The journey to better spine health at Englewood Hospital begins with a dedicated nurse navigator (an advanced practice nurse) who provides patients with guidance and support to help them secure treatment options that best suit their specific condition.  In addition, patients can count on a multidisciplinary team of experts specializing in pain management, ortho and neurosurgery and physical medicine and other related disciplines to ensure a full continuum of care.

“Our primary goal is to help patients pinpoint the best specialist for their individual problem,” says Cynthia Knorr-Mulder, APN, NP- C, Clinical Director Pain Management and Wellness at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. “To accomplish this, the skill and resources of a multidisciplinary care team are brought together so patients have easy access to a full range of expert medical, surgical, and rehabilitative services.”

More than 85 board-certified physicians from a wide range of disciplines work collaboratively through The Spine Center. Specialists include anesthesiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, pediatric neurologists, orthopedists, orthopedic surgeons, and rehabilitation medicine and pain management specialists as well as acute-care nursing professionals and advanced practice nurse navigators. Patients also have access to a variety of integrative healing services including therapeutic massage and acupuncture.

Patients at The Spine Center can also turn to Englewood Hospital’s Spine University to learn more about and properly prepare for treatment. Nurse Practitioners, physician and occupational therapists and care coordinators are available to discuss a host of topics ranging from pre-surgery planning through post-operative healing to help ease any concerns that patients might feel. Following spine surgery, patients at Englewood Hospital begin their recovery in a new state-of-the-art acute care unit for orthopedic and neurosurgery patients.  The 24,000 square-foot space has 22 private patient rooms and offers a comfortable, efficient setting for post-op care.

The Spine Center is part of the Medical Center’s Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Institute.
