Englewood Nurses Achieve Honors
Special events planned in honor of Nurses Week, May 6 -12

Englewood, NJ May 5, 2010 – Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (www.englewoodhospital.com) is proud to announce that two nurses have been recognized for their commitment to education and the nursing profession. Honorees Maryelena Vargas and Brenda Marshall both work at Englewood Hospital’s Center for Nursing Practice where they help colleagues and nursing students to reach their professional goals.

Maryelena Vargas, RN, IBCLC, Executive Director Center for Nursing Practice:
Vargas’ symposium titled, “Creating a Culture of Inquiry: Supporting Hospital-wide Evidence-Base Practice,” has been accepted for presentation at Sigma Theta Tau International’s 21st International Nursing Research Congress. In accepting the symposium, Sigma Theta Tau International said “this is an excellent reflection of current nursing research and timely issues.” Vargas lives in Tenafly with her family.

Brenda Marshall, BA, MS, MSN, EdD, APN, Director of Evidence Based Practice:
Marshall has been named a Finalist in the Teaching category of the 2010 Nursing Spectrum Nursing Excellence program. Colleagues recognize Marshall for her commitment to education and for “going great lengths to make sure each individual develops competencies and confidence.” Brenda and her family live in Wayne, NJ.

Patients at Englewood Hospital can be confident that they’re being cared for by highly-skilled, professional nurses. The Medical Center is among only 6% of hospitals nationwide to earn Magnet status for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center— and it has received this distinction twice. In addition, 68% of staff nurses and care managers hold either a BSN or MSN in nursing—far exceeding the national average.

Nurses Week 2010
To honor its nurses, Englewood Hospital hosts an awards ceremony during Nurses Week to recognize individual nurses for excellence in All-Around Practice Excellence, Humanitarianism, Research, Leadership, and more. The Medical Center—and its nurses—are always gratified to hear about the many ways nurses make a difference in the lives of patients and their families and invites area residents who were cared for by a special nurse to send a letter about their experience.

The Medical Center will also host a special musical treat for nurses and the local community on May 13th at 2pm in the Chiang Auditorium. “Hey Florence!” is a musical that offers a hilarious, poignant look at the day-to-day life of nurses. The show highlights the courage, humor and hopes of today’s nurses and includes songs like “Someone’s Gotta Do It,” about the difficult and messy jobs nurses take on and “I Need Chocolate,” which needs no explanation!

Admission is free. Everyone is welcomed to attend this special community event.
