Teddy Bear Donation Brings Joy to Pediatric Patients at Englewood Hospital

Starlight Children’s Foundation “Send a Smile, Send a Bear” Program Distributes Bears to Seriously Ill Children at Local Hospitals

Four-year old Natsai Bhoroma of Fort Lee, NJ hugs her Teddy Bear “friend.” Fifty teddy bears were donated by the Starlight Children’s Foundation to the Child Life Program at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.

Englewood, NJ October 6, 2010 – Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (englewoodhospital.com) welcomed the arrival of 50 sweet little teddy bears, courtesy of the Starlight Children’s Foundation NY*NJ*CT. The donation is part of the Foundation’s “Send a Smile, Send a Bear” Program which distributes these lovable toys to seriously ill children. The Child Life Department at Englewood Hospital will distribute the teddy bears to children in the pediatric unit.

“We are proud to partner with the Starlight Children’s Foundation,” said Michelle Brauntuch, MS, Certified Child Life Specialist at Englewood Hospital. “Their ongoing support helps us brighten spirits and makes the hospital experience less stressful for children and families.”

The teddy bears provide a welcome distraction from the stress and fear that children experience while hospitalized.  All community members are encouraged to participate and “Send a Smile, Send a Bear” to a seriously ill child in their area.  For each donation of $25, the Starlight Children’s Foundation will distribute the bears and to children in hospitals across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

“For eight years, the Starlight Children’s Foundation has been brightening smiles with our teddy bear program,” said Elaine Siver, Executive Director of the Starlight Children’s Foundation. “It’s extremely difficult for children to be in the hospital and keep high spirits.  This program really boosts their strength and provides the opportunity for the community to participate and help them through what would otherwise be a difficult time.”

The teddy bear program is offered year round. They can be ordered online at www.starlight-newyork.org
