Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Awarded Prestigious Certifications

The Joint Commission recognizes Englewood Hospital for delivery of clinical excellence in stroke care and total joint replacement

Englewood, NJ February 22, 2011 – Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (englewoodhospital.com) is proud to announce that it has earned two Gold Seals of Approval™ from The Joint Commission for its delivery of high-quality clinical care in Joint Replacement Surgery and in Stroke Care. To earn these distinctions, a clinical program must demonstrate compliance with the most stringent standards of performance.

“These latest recognitions by The Joint Commission are a reflection of Englewood Hospital’s continued commitment to clinical excellence,” said Maddy Pearson, MA, RN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services, Chief Nursing Officer at Englewood Hospital. “Every day, our team of physicians, nurses and other medical professionals diligently follow national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for our patients.”

Primary Stroke Center

Englewood Hospital’s Stroke Center is among a prestigious group of fewer than 150 hospitals nationwide designated as a Primary Stroke Center. Recertification from the Joint Commission serves as recognition that our stroke program significantly improves outcomes for stroke patients.

Patients will note that our stroke team is distinctive in that the response and care of stroke patients has been planned by and is implemented by a coordinated team of experts. In addition, members of the local ambulance corps have been trained to recognize the symptoms of stroke and are prepared to alert the Emergency Department of the imminent arrival by ambulance of a possible stroke patient.

The Joint Replacement Center

Board-certified orthopedic surgeons specializing in joint replacement at Englewood Hospital offer patients advanced surgical options, including complex revision surgery, gender-specific knee implants, partial knee replacement, hip resurfacing, and two-incision hip replacement. In addition, surgeons employ minimally invasive, bloodless techniques that promote a quicker healing process, shorter hospital stay, and a reduced risk of infection.

Joint replacement patients recover in a new, state-of-the-art acute care unit. The well-appointed unit, which features 22 private rooms, offers an ideal setting for post-op care, including special amenities suited for orthopedic patients. Patients are cared for by Magnet® nursing staff including certified orthopedic nurses and a dedicated orthopedic nurse practitioner. The Joint Replacement Center is recognized by patients as a leader in Bergen County for patient satisfaction.
