Chairman Leads with Pride and Devotion

“Everything we require to succeed is right in front of us,” Jay said. “Opportunities, solutions, whatever we need and, most important, people with ability and energy who care. The family that is Englewood Hospital – medical and nursing staff, administration, volunteers, donors, community friends – makes it work.
That is one of the things I have learned as chairman, and I am particularly proud to be part of it.”

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center and the Englewood Healthcare System

ENGLEWOOD, NJ, March 11, 2011 –

Five years into his tenure as chairman of the Board of Trustees of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, Jay C. Nadel has learned much about the institution that has become an important focus of his life.

The rewards of being chairman, a position both demanding and time-consuming, have been great. “The Medical Center is a non-profit organization that belongs to the community, and our job, our only job, is to provide quality healthcare that meets the highest expectations,” he said. “It’s terrific to know that the community is behind us 100 percent, and an honor to lead the board at such a great time in Englewood’s history.”

Jay is known at the hospital, as well as in the community and business world, for his business acumen and remarkable abilities in bringing people together to attain success across all areas. His leadership has been instrumental in the Medical Center’s opening of the region’s premier emergency department facility and its increased patient satisfaction and patient care quality. He has made significant contributions to strengthening the culture of philanthropy that has been critical to supporting the Medical Center’s continued growth, most recently toiling tirelessly as part of the $30 million capital campaign to build The Kaplen Pavilion.

For his exceptional dedication to the community in ensuring the present and future of quality healthcare at the Medical Center, Jay will be honored at its 2011 Black Tie Gala on Saturday, April 30 at Pier Sixty in New York City. That evening, he will receive the Touchstone Award, the highest tribute bestowed for distinguished service to the Medical Center and the community it serves. Proceeds from the Gala, which is a signature event of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Foundation, will benefit programs and services at the Medical Center.

Jay C. Nadel has been chairman of the Board of Trustees of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center as well as the Englewood Healthcare System since September of 2006. During that time, the Medical Center established itself as a leader in providing state-of-the- art, compassionate care in a humanistic setting. “Jay has shown remarkable dedication in his duties as the chairman of our board,” said Englewood’s president and CEO Douglas A. Duchak. “His vision and focus in numerous areas have been key to the recent successes of the Medical Center and its promising future. We applaud his service and inspiring, dynamic leadership.”

A strong desire to make a difference in the community, an extraordinary ability to focus and an amazing capacity for hard work are the formula for Jay’s remarkable success at fulfilling his duties. “If you apply yourself and stay focused you can accomplish anything,” he said. After a successful career working in the financial services industry, he could have retired at the age of 46. But kicking back and relaxing were not options for this high-energy executive.

“Jay has done, and continues to do, a tremendous job for Englewood Hospital and Medical Center,” said Richard J. Kurtz, chairman of the Foundation. “He puts enormous effort and countless hours into his work here, bringing not only incomparable energy and business skill, but also vision, confidence and open-mindedness to new ideas. He’s built an exemplary board and fired up fundraising. Perhaps most importantly, he’s raised the profile of the hospital in the community. Jay is an extraordinary ambassador for Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.”

“Offering quality care is what makes a hospital a success, and if we don’t do that, we are not serving the needs of the community,” said Dr. Aryeh Shander, immediate past president of the Medical Staff and a fellow board member. “Jay is to be commended for the personal attention and leadership he gives to our commitment to excellence in patient care. He has been instrumental in bringing the board together with administration, staff and physicians to achieve our mutual goals of quality and excellence in the care we provide.” Advancing the cause of a healthcare organization can be difficult, but Jay has succeeded in winning the respect of the hospital’s physicians said Dr. Shander, an internationally respected physician who has dedicated much of his distinguished career to the Medical Center. “Jay’s commitment to quality care shines through brilliantly. That’s something our doctors have recognized and deeply appreciate.”
