(Englewood, N.J.) January 3, 2012 – Englewood Hospital and Medical Center began providing emergency medical services (EMS) to the city of Englewood as of January 1, 2012.   The daytime and weekend ambulance service supplements the city’s Volunteer Ambulance Corps that continues to cover night time calls and special events.

The city’s council passed a resolution in mid-November following a review of Request for Proposals from several competing medical service providers. The two-year, no-cost contract with Englewood Hospital includes EMS coverage from 6am to 6pm weekdays and 6pm-6am Saturday and Sunday.

“We are honored to have been awarded this emergency medical service contract in our hometown and look forward to bringing the highest quality care and service to the residents of Englewood,” said Harvey Weber, Director of the Emergency Medical Services Department at Englewood Hospital.

Englewood Hospital’s EMS staff will continue to supplement city residents with service and community outreach through emergency medical care training classes, public education and health awareness.

Englewood Hospital also provides dedicated ambulance services to Leonia and Palisades Park, and provides back up EMS coverage throughout Bergen County. Supplemental ambulance services help local towns add emergency coverage as volunteers continue to decline.

Englewood Hospital operates the largest hospital-based ambulance system in Bergen County.  The Medical Center’s fleet of ambulances, which features extensive equipment essential to providing care for patients in life-threatening or emergency situations, has grown rapidly, and plans are underway to add additional vehicles to meet the increasing demand for pre-hospital emergency medical care.

Englewood Hospital’s EMS teams remain active in community service programs throughout Bergen County.  Among its many activities are special coverage at health fairs and events and educational support for the County’s diverse communities.
