Borough of Englewood Cliffs Awards EMS Contract to
Englewood Hospital and Medical Center

(Englewood, NJ, August 8, 2012) Englewood Hospital and Medical Center announced a new partnership with the Borough of Englewood Cliffs to provide 24/7 emergency medical services (EMS) to its residents. The city’s council and mayor unanimously approved the two-year ambulance contract, which began on August 4, 2012.

“We are extremely pleased to offer our emergency medical services to our neighboring town of Englewood Cliffs,” said Harvey Weber, Director of Englewood Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services Department. “This partnership is a practical and cost-effective way to provide high-quality emergency medical services to the residents who live near our Medical Center.”

Englewood Hospital EMS will provide 24-hour 911 coverage to the Borough of Englewood Cliffs. Additionally, the agency will partner with Englewood Cliffs Police Department, Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Emergency Vehicle Assistance and Communications (EVAC) to coordinate interagency drills and supply emergency preparedness resources.

The agency will also support the community in a variety of capacities, including public education, free health screening events and CPR training courses, among other things.

“We are very happy Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is able to provide protection to the residents of Englewood Cliffs,” said Joseph Parisi, Mayor of Englewood Cliffs. “I understand the challenge of finding volunteers in this day and age and want to thank our ambulance corps for their years of service. Unfortunately the leadership of our volunteer ambulance corps advised us that they could not fill the needs to protect our citizens and this arrangement is the most effective solution for that protection. We look forward to building a long, lasting relationship with the Emergency Medical Services of Englewood Hospital in the years to come.”

“Englewood Hospital presented a cost-effective way to provide emergency medical services without sacrificing high-quality patient care,” added Joseph Favaro, Englewood Cliffs Borough Council President. “This is the right move for Englewood Cliffs and its residents going forward.”

Englewood Hospital also provides dedicated ambulance services to Englewood, Leonia and Palisades Park, and provides back-up EMS coverage throughout Bergen County. Supplemental ambulance services help local towns add emergency coverage as volunteer services continue to decline.
