-Englewood Hospital Patient Navigation Manager Earns Prestigious Designations-

Cathy Lauer, MS, LCSW Patient Navigation Manager for the Leslie Simon Breast Care Center at Englewood Hospital recently earned the National Consortium of Breast Centers’ designations of Certified Breast Patient Navigator in Imaging and Cancer Care.

(Englewood, NJ, August 24, 2012) – Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is proud to announce Cathy Lauer, Patient Navigation Manager for the Leslie Simon Breast Care Center at the Medical Center, recently received the prestigious designations of Certified Breast Patient Navigator in Imaging and Cancer Care from the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC).

The NCBC promotes excellence in breast health, through a wide-range of educational resources and programs focused on providing support to patients and encouraging professionals to specialize in activities related to breast disease.

These certifications recognize Lauer’s knowledge and skills in navigating a breast patient through their breast care or cancer continuum of care, which is a complex and highly individualized process designed to enhance patient safety and quality of care, among other things.

Lauer voluntarily pursued the NCBC’s Breast Patient Navigation and Certification Program as a way to provide patients with advanced expertise and understanding during their cancer treatment. She successfully completed both certification exams.

“Patient-centered care is Englewood Hospital’s number one priority,” said Christine Weiselberg, Administrative Director of the Leslie Simon Breast Care Center at Englewood Hospital. “Ms. Lauer’s decision to participate in this certification program is a testament of her commitment to providing our patients the highest quality care possible.”

Lauer is now certified to personally guide patients through the breast imaging care process, ensuring they receive timely exam results, diagnosis and treatment. She will also assist in scheduling patients for necessary follow-up appointments or routine imaging exams. Additionally, Lauer will connect patients with appropriate staff members for services and support needed through the various stages of care to ensure each person moves through the process efficiently.

“The most important thing for our patients is putting that knowledge and skill to work in a compassionate, caring, and supportive way,” said Cathy Lauer, MS, LCSW Patient Navigation Manager for the Leslie Simon Breast Care Center at Englewood Hospital. “That is what will help a person move through cancer treatment and that is my goal every day. I am proud to be a part of a hospital that backs that philosophy 100% and has medical staff and personnel who practice in this attentive way with each patient.”
