Free Seminar to Focus on Advances in Crohn’s and Colitis Care for Young People

- Englewood Hospital to Host Conference for Families Featuring Leading IBD Experts-

(Englewood, NJ, September 27, 2012) – The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center will host a free seminar, followed by a question and answer session for families with young people living with Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis on Tuesday, October 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“Updates in Crohn’s & Colitis for Families: Children, Adolescents and Young Adults” will focus on the latest advancements in treating and managing IBD. Nationally-recognized pediatric and adult gastroenterologists will discuss genetics, new research and treatments, surgical and non-surgical breakthroughs and the transition from pediatric to adult IBD care.

Approximately 1.4 million people are living with Crohn’s Disease and Colitis nationwide, with an estimated 30,000 new cases being diagnosed in the U.S. every year, according to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.

“Our goal is to provide parents or caregivers the most up-to-date information on IBD and connect them with the resources they need to help their children effectively manage Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis at any age,” said Keith Benkov, MD, Pediatric Gastroenterologist at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.

Board-certified Child Life Specialists will be on hand to provide supervised activities to children during the conference. Families will also have an opportunity to participate in a question and answer session as well as meet with leading IBD experts and others affected by IBD. Light refreshments will be served.
