Breast Imaging Services Earn Gold Seal of Accreditation from American College of Radiology

-Englewood Hospital Recognized for Excellence in Breast Ultrasound, Mammography & Stereotactic Biopsy-

(Englewood, NJ, October 31, 2012)
– The Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is proud to announce it has earned the gold seal of accreditation in breast ultrasound, mammography and stereotactic breast biopsy from the American College of Radiology (ACR), the leading radiation oncology practice accreditation organization.

The ACR awarded a three-year term of accreditation for all three breast imaging services, following a rigorous evaluation of the Breast Care Center.

“This achievement represents our team effort and commitment to delivering excellent, humanistic care to our patients,” said Christine Weiselberg, Administrative Director of The Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. “We offer the latest in all-digital diagnostic equipment in order to provide the highest level of image quality available. This state-of-the-art technology means our patients have access to more accurate, detailed results with less wait time.”

Ultrasound imaging of the breast is a non-invasive imaging study that produces a picture of the internal structures of the breast, allowing radiologists to better diagnose and treat the patient. Mammography is a specific type of imaging test used to examine breasts, aiding in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases. In stereotactic breast biopsy, a special mammography machine helps guide the radiologists to the precise location of the area of concern. This allows for a small tissue sample to be taken without surgery.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which then provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
