Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Achieves “A” for Patient Safety

-Leapfrog Award Reflects Highest Possible Grade-

(Englewood, NJ, November 28, 2012) Englewood Hospital and Medical Center has been awarded an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national non-profit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. This latest safety report marks the second consecutive “A” Englewood Hospital has received from the Leapfrog Group this year.

U.S. hospitals received an A, B, C, D or F based on the careful review and analysis of publicly available safety data, including preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections. The final scores are designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families when seeking medical care.

“We are honored to receive recognition as a top performer in patient safety from the Leapfrog Group,” said Kathy Kaminsky, MS, RN, Vice President of Clinical Effectiveness at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. “A safe and high quality medical experience is every patient’s right, and we will continue to make it our priority at Englewood Hospital. This report serves as an excellent resource to members of our community who deserve to feel confident when choosing a hospital.”

The Hospital Safety ScoreSM was calculated under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety, a nine-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel who used 26 measures of publicly available data to produce a single score. That score represents a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm.

“Hospitals like this that earn an A have demonstrated their commitment to their patients and their community,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I congratulate Englewood Hospital for its safety excellence and look forward to the day when all hospitals will match this standard.”
