(Englewood, NJ, January 15, 2013) –Englewood Hospital and Medical Center today announced it has received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™. The distinction ranks Englewood Hospital among the top five percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its clinical performance, according to a Hospital Quality Report released by Healthgrades, a leading provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

While many hospitals are elligible, not all earn the award. Englewood Hospital was one of four out of 28 eligible hospitals in the New York City metro area to receive this prestigious designation.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as one of the nation’s top performers in clinical quality,” said Warren Geller, President and CEO of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. “This award is certainly a tribute to the efforts of all members of our healthcare team, who work tirelessly to provide our patients with the safe, individualized care that Englewood Hospital is known for.”

Healthgrades analyzed data between 2009 and 2011, measuring objective clinical outcomes across some of the most common conditions and procedures. Nearly 165,000 lives could have been potentially saved, if all hospitals performed on the same level as those recognized for excellence in this category, according to the report.

“Healthgrades helps consumers become more aware that hospital quality matters and differs from one hospital to another, even in their own neighborhood,” said Evan Marks, EVP Informatics and Strategy. “Since selecting a physician and hospital strongly impacts patients’ odds of experiencing complications or emerging from their procedure alive and well, patients should familiarize themselves with the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence recipients since these hospitals stand out above the rest for their overall clinical performance across a broad spectrum of care.”
