Englewood Hospital  Recognized by Healthgrades for Superior Performance in Maternity Care and Gynecologic Surgery

- Healthgrades® Report Reveals Top-Performing Hospitals-

(Englewood, NJ, July 30, 2013) – Englewood Hospital and Medical Center has been named among the top-performing hospitals evaluated in maternity care and gynecologic surgery, according to a new report released by Healthgrades®, the leading online resource that helps consumers search, evaluate, compare and connect with physicians and hospitals.

Healthgrades® recognized Englewood Hospital with the Maternity Care Excellence Award™, and Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award™.The medical center’s performance related to clinical outcomes measured (complication and mortalities) was among the top five percent of hospitals evaluated.

“This recognition is an extraordinary accomplishment,” said Warren Geller, President and CEO of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. “Our entire health care team continues to deliver the best care in the country to the community we serve, just as our patients will continue to inspire our team to set new standards in quality and safety.”

Healthgrades® makes its performance evaluations using three years of publicly-reported hospital data. The best‐performing hospitals received 5 stars, average‐performing hospitals received 3 stars, and poor‐performing hospitals received one star.

Over the 3 years analyzed, patients at 5-Star hospitals had 55-percent fewer complications during natural childbirth and 77-percent fewer complications during a C-section delivery compared to one star hospitals.

This year marks the eleventh consecutive year that Englewood Hospital received the 5-star rating (2003-2013) for Maternity Care.

“We have made it our priority to provide the most advanced maternity care to our moms-to-be and their families and are honored to receive recognition for those efforts,” said Faith Frieden, MD, Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Englewood Hospital.

The variation in hospital performance also makes a difference in terms of clinical outcomes for gynecologic surgery. From 2009 through 2011, patients at 5-star hospitals had a nearly 55-percent lower risk of complications than patients treated at 1-star hospitals. Healthgrades® reports nearly 28,000 patients could have avoided complications if all hospitals performed at the level of 5 star hospitals in gynecologic surgery.

Englewood Hospital also received the 5-star rating for Gynecologic Surgery.
