REP. PASCRELL HOLDS ANNUAL CONGRESSIONAL HEALTH FAIR

Event offers free health screenings and services to North Jersey residents

ENGLEWOOD – As the issue of Healthcare remains in the public spotlight, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) held his annual Congressional Health Fair this morning. Taking place at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, the event offered free health screenings and provided information about the numerous services available to local residents.

“It brings me great pride to see the residents of my district taking such proactive steps for their health," said Rep. Pascrell. "As we all know, the health of our communities is directly related to the health of their residents.  I'd like to thank Englewood Hospital for their support in hosting this year's event in Bergen County for the first time, and I look forward to strengthening our partnership with them well into the future. One of my top priorities in Congress has and will continue to be addressing the individual needs, including healthcare, of the people I proudly represent."

Attendees to this year’s Health Fair received screenings for blood pressure, cardiac and pulmonary health, glaucoma tests, and cholesterol levels. In addition, they were able to take part in stroke assessments and memory tests. Along with these and other health screenings, the Health Fair offered residents many services and educational tables regarding nutrition, men’s and women’s health, and diabetes management. There was even a pharmacist and a local dentist on call to answer people’s questions. Other vendors there included the American Red Cross, AARP, the Brain Injury Alliance of NJ, and Family Promise of Bergen County.

“We were elated to welcome Congressman Bill Pascrell and staff to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center for the annual Congressional Health Fair,” said Warren Geller, President and CEO of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. “It was an honor to provide support for this health fair and offer residents throughout the state access to free health screenings and other essential wellness services. Congressman Pascrell’s presence was well received and the successful event was an important service to the community.”

Rep. Pascrell has made health issues facing north Jersey residents a focal point for much of his career. Recently appointed to the House Ways and Means subcommittee on Health, he continues to push for legislation that seeks to improve the health and well-being of his constituents.
