Study Title: 70807: The Men’s Eating and Living (MEAL) Study: A Randomized Trial of Diet to Alter Disease Progression in Prostate Cancer Patients on Active Surveillance
Eligibility requirements: Men who are between 50 - 80 years old with biopsy-proven prostate cancer who have not received any prior therapy.
Study objectives:
To determine if a telephone-based dietary intervention compared to no intervention will decrease clinical progression in patients undergoing "Active Surveillance" for prostate cancer.
Summary of procedures: Patients will be randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups: (1) Patients in group one will receive dietary education, telephone counseling sessions, and detailed newsletters over 24 months; (2) Patients in group two will receive standard US Department of Agriculture dietary guidelines for Americans and general newsletters over 24 months.
