LONG DISTANCE EVALUATION and TREATMENT
“Intercontinental Assessment Service”
Since far too few clinicians know how to diagnose and treat PPS, polio survivors from California to New England, Canada to Peru, from Denmark, Turkey, South Africa and Beijing have come to The Post-Polio Institute for assessment and treatment.
You will receive a comprehensive medical examination and psychophysiological evaluation by Dr.Bruno that requires about four hours. They then develop a treatment plan and consult with you, your local physicians and therapists by phone and e-mail to implement the plan and coordinate care after you go home. The cost for the entire assessment is about $1,150.00. Your cost depends on your insurance.
"Get Away" Therapy Program
PPS patients who live more than two hours from Englewood Hospital and Medical Center are invited to use our "Get Away" Therapy Program. Participants of this weekly program can drive to Englewood on Sunday and stay at a reduced rate at a nearby luxury hotel. Patients then receive a complimentary lunch and outpatient therapy Monday afternoon before driving home.
Most health insurance companies and Medicare/Medicaid will pay a large portion of the charges for the evaluations, tests and therapy sessions. You may need a referral from your personal physician if your managed care plan or HMO is to authorize evaluation and treatment The Post-Polio Institute's staff works with patients to obtain authorization for evaluation, treatment and assistive devices that are recommended.
INSURANCE COVERAGE, LONG TERM DISABILITY and LEGAL CONSULTATION
Insurance
Most health insurance companies and Medicare/Medicaid typically pay a large part of the charges for medical evaluations, blood work and tests, therapy sessions and psychotherapy. You will likely need separate referrals from your personal physician for evaluation and treatment by Dr. Bruno if your managed care plan or HMO is to authorize evaluation and treatment. We will always work with you to obtain authorization for evaluation, treatment and assistive devices. Please bring your HMO referral/authorization and co-pay with you to the evaluation and treatment sessions.
Medical/Legal Consultations for Long -Term Disability, and Expert Witnesses Services.
Polio survivors often have great difficulty finding a knowledgeable doctor to complete their Social Security Disability applications. And, since 18% of polio survivors have their PPS begin after an accident of some kind, very few polio survivors have access to a doctor who can serve as an expert witness and testify that PPS are sometimes accident or work-related.
Dr. Bruno has been providing evaluations for Social Security Disability and accident-related PPS, performing extensive written reviews of medical records, and serving as expert witnesses for more than a decade:
As co-author of the Social Security Administration's POMS for Evaluation of the Late Effects of Poliomyelitis (24580.010) and the 2003 SSA Ruling for Post-Polio Sequelae, Dr. Bruno is intimately familiar with the Social Security system and disability process; not one Post-Polio Institute patient has been denied disability. The doctors will work directly with you as you apply for SSDI or fight a previous denial. No lawyer is needed.
For expert witness services or medical records reviews please ask your lawyer to contact the doctors.
