Curriculum: Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is a Teaching Affiliate of The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.




Overview

The two-year program accepts annually one fellow who has completed an approved residency program. The staff consists of eight board-certified vascular surgeons, one board-certified critical care vascular surgeon, and two vascular inter-ventionalists, managing an annual caseload of more than 500 major vascular cases.

Curriculum

The first year exposes the fellow to clinical service and research activities. This rotation includes interventional surgery, wound care, the noninvasive vascular laboratory, and devoted time to research. The fellow gains extensive clinical experience in the areas of patient evaluation, operative procedures, and post-operative management. The program supports and encourages publication and presentation of findings from laboratory research as well as clinical research.

The second year focuses on clinical service that includes management of patients in the clinical and private office setting. The fellow serves as the surgeon and primary care provider for more than 300 vascular disease patients with the attending staff physicians available for guidance and supervision. The fellow diagnoses, operates, and participates actively in the management of the vascular surgery caseload.

Mount Sinai and University of Pennsylvania Students at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is a major teaching affiliate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Students are assigned to the Medical Center for rotations during their third year of medical school to obtain both inpatient and ambulatory experience. Students are fully integrated in the resident and fellowship training programs and enjoy a wide array of experience in preventive care and all aspects of vascular surgery.
